UPDATE 4/5/21: Statement from The Prehistoric Society regarding the University of Leicester.
The University and College Union today called for a global boycott on the University of Leicester in response to a long running dispute over redundancies. These redundancies do not affect the School of Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester. The Prehistoric Society offers its support to staff in the University of Leicester UCU and calls on the university to reconsider its redundancy plans.
In 2020 our flagship Europa conference was due to honour Prof Colin Haselgrove for his outstanding work in the field of European prehistory. This would have taken place at the University of Leicester. However, the conference was postponed due to Covid19 and is now rescheduled as an on-line event to take place on the 18th to 19th June 2021. As an act of solidarity with UCU Leicester, and with the support of colleagues in the School of Archaeology and Ancient History, we have removed any reference to the University of Leicester in this on-line event. We hope you will join us in June to celebrate the achievements of one of our leading prehistorians.
